Experience the Flavours of the Gascoyne — One Signature Dish at a Time

If you’ve ever dreamed of eating your way across Western Australia’s most breathtaking landscapes, now is your chance. The Taste of the Gascoyne Food Trail has officially begun — and it’s more than a food journey. It’s a celebration of place, produce, and passion, where every plate tells a story.

As part of the Gascoyne Food Festival — Australia’s largest regional gastronomic experience — the Food Trail offers a self-guided culinary adventure across Shark Bay, Carnarvon, Coral Bay, and Exmouth. Along the way, restaurants, cafés, and outback stations are serving up signature dishes that hero the region’s world-class seafood, seasonal harvests, and native bush flavours.

From Ocean to Outback, Your Culinary Journey Awaits

Start in Shark Bay, where Oceans Restaurant delivers a show-stopping Ocean Seafood Platter, heaving with fresh local catch. Over on Dirk Hartog Island, a seasonal coastal creation captures the wild beauty and remoteness of island life. And at Shark Bay Pizza, tuck into a slice of something special — a pizza topped with local seafood and bursting with coastal flavour.

Further north in Carnarvon, rich in tropical produce and framed by the mighty Gascoyne River, the trail continues. Sails Restaurant serves their famed Seafood Chowder, thick with the taste of the Indian Ocean. Kestrel Café offers a zesty spin with Vietnamese crab spring rolls, while Miss Fang’s goes classic with Special Fried Rice that’s anything but ordinary. Taste of Italy delights with rustic house-made gnocchi in a sauce layered with locally grown vegetables. Overlooking the water, 6701 Waterfront is your breakfast haven with avocado and eggs on sourdough. For something truly special, Jardilunji Mia at Gwoonwardu Mia presents Kangaroo Nachos — a celebration of culture and country.

In Coral Bay, things turn sweet at Sweet Ningaloo, where their Sweet Cup layers house-made gelato, warm waffles, sauces, and tropical fruit in a dessert that’s pure indulgence. Bills Bar brings the reef to your plate with The Local Catch, a smoky, seafood-filled signature that tastes like summer.

Then it’s on to Exmouth, where boldness and creativity shine. Mutts Café serves up its cult-favourite Classic Burger, made unforgettable by their tangy, signature Mutts sauce. Whalers Restaurant impresses with a generous Seafood Platter, beautifully plated among tropical gardens. Adrift Café honours the sea with Exmouth tiger prawns and Shark Bay clams, brightened with a golden saffron emulsion. At Bullara Station, you’ll find heart and heritage in every bite of their Bullara Steak Pie, made from their own award-winning beef. And for the grand finale? Exhale’s extraordinary From Reef to Ranges — kangaroo fillet on parsnip purée, Illawarra plums, pickled Exmouth bugs, and Goldband Snapper ceviche tostada. It’s a dish that embodies everything the Gascoyne has to offer: wild, refined, unforgettable.
